Bint Aldar gets up late to Win Nursery Handicap
Bint Aldar, by first-season sire Zoffany out of Highbank mare Maggie Lou bagged her second win in just 4 starts after producing a blistering final furlong to get up by a nose on the line. On her last start at York in a Class 2 Nursery handicap, Bint Aldar set a genuine early gallop before appearing to tire in the last half furlong to eventually finish a creditable two-length fourth over 6 furlongs. On pedigree a drop back to 5 furlongs would seem to suit Bint Aldar given that her dam's only win came over 5 furlongs as a 2 year old and her second dam was victorious over 6 furlongs as a two year old, aswell as sire Zoffany being a prococious type himself winning the Group 1 Pheonix Stakes over 6 furlongs in his juvenile campaign.
Breaking well from stall 3 Bint Aldar settled a few lengths off the blistering early gallop set by Ayresome Angel, although approaching the final furlong and a half there was still 4 or 5 lengths seperating her from the leader and Richard Fahey trained Astley Hall who had moved into contention under Tony Hamilton. Tom Eaves, riding the 4th winner of the day for Yorkshire based trainer Kevin Ryan, got Bint Aldar organised for an effort down the outside and produced a quality ride to nick the race on the line, Bint Aldar never having lead the race until the final stride.
