Ashadihan Second in Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot
Highbank Stud's second ever runner at Royal Ascot acheived an exceptional result when placing second in the Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot on 19th June 2015 . Ashadihan, trained by Kevin Ryan and ridden by Jamie Spencer for owner T A Rahman, was sent off at 14/1 after demolishing her rivals in impressive style over six furlongs at Haydock three weeks prior to the Royal meeting, and demonstrated a blistering turn of foot to account for all but one of the 19 runner field.
Breaking slowly and struggling to keep up with the early pacemakers, Ashadihan was dropped in at the rear of the field by Spencer as the leaders continued to set a blistering pace. Approaching the 2 furlong mark Ashadihan displayed an exceptional burst of speed to weave her way through the field and with a furlong to go appeared to be in genuine contention. However Illuminate, rated by Richard Hannon as his best chance of success at the meeting and debut winner by 21/2 lengths to a subsequent listed winner in Ireland, came through on the outside to run out an eventually comfortable 11/2 length victor.
Trainer Kevin Ryan, who had placed horse in 4 races at the meeting including in the Group 1 Prince of Wales and Diamond Jubilee Stakes obviously thinks extremely highly of the filly, stating after the race:
"I am very proud of Ashadihan, she got a little bit lost early on and came home well. I think she will be better over another furlong. She has a great temperament. We were concerned about running her on the ground but please god we have got away with it. I think it was a very good race "
