Ashadihan comes with storming late run to land Group 3 Chartwell Fillies Stakes
3 year old Kyllachy filly Ashadihan, trained by Kevin Ryan and bred by Highbank, came with a storming late run to land the Group 3 Chartwell Fillies Stakes at Lingfield beating Light Music by a comfortable length.
The scopy daughter of Miss Delila was settled at the back by Jamie Spencer in tactics similar to that of when second in the Group 3 Albany at Royal Ascot last year, however she appeared to show a dislike of a surface she was racing on for the first time when first to be niggled along and swinging 5 or 6 wide round the final bend. At that point the leaders had already set sail for home and horses coming from off the pace at Lingfield tend not to catch the frontrunners as much as at some other tracks. This, coupled with an obvious dislike of the surface, pointed to a near impossible task but throughout the last two furlongs Ashadihan produced a blistering turn of foot to scythe down the entire field and win going away with Spencer easing up as the pair passed the winning post.
Visually, it was an extremely impressive performance but credit must also go to Kevin Ryan who brought the filly back off a near 9 month break to win a very competitive race in which each filly had performed creditably at pattern level previous to the Chartwell.
Winning rider Spencer was clearly excited about the fillys prospective career stating:
"She just didn't handle the track and it was her class that got her through.
"Kevin was very sweet on her chances and this is my lowest weight in a while. He said it would be worth it and he was right.
"If she had handled the track, she would have won by five lengths. I lost so much ground round the home turn I had to stop and almost go again as the ones at the front had gone.
"(Connections may) possibly have something like the Irish Guineas in mind."
Congratulations on the first group winner of the season to all those at Hambleton Lodge as well as the owner T A Rahman; and hopefully this is just the start of a very exciting career for a very promising filly.
