Invincible Spirit ex Loch Jipp colt tops Craven Breeze Up at 360,000gns

The Highbank-bred Invincible Spirit colt out of Belong to Me mare Loch Jipp has sold for 360,000 gns, the highest price for any lot at the 2016 Craven Breeze up sale. The colt was signed for by Jamie McCalmont on behalf of Coolmore, with the agent stating he is currently unsure who will train the 2 year old.

Consigned by Mark Dwyer's Oaks Farm Stables on behalf of Highbank the colt had been extremely impressive in his work in the weeks leading up to the sale and Mark's optimism was confirmed when the third foal out of Loch Jipp set a blistering pace across a few furlongs of the Rowley mile, catching the eye of some of the industrys leading figures including underbidders John Ferguson and Hillen/Ryan. After bidding opened at 100,000gns, the hammer eventually fell to a bid of 360,000 from agent Jamie McCalmont acting on behalf of Coolmore. In addition to the undeniable potential displalyed through his breeze, the colt was also a stand out physical specimen as well as demonstrating a laid back attitude with McCalmont commenting: "He is a powerful-looking colt, and he has not been fazed by the sale process at all.  He is a lovely colt bought for Coolmore, I don't know where he'll be trained."

It is the third exceptional result for 11 year old mare Loch Jipp, who was trained by John Wainwright to win the Listed Hillary Needler Trophy at two. Her previous lots through the ring include Chasewater, a filly by Dubawi who sold to John Ferguson for 100,000gns at a cover of  £15,000. This was followed by a full sister to this years top lot, Heyba, who sold for 450,000gns to David Redvers at this exact sale in 2014. Unfortunately, Loch Jipp has no foal or yearling but is set to be covered by Dutch Art for the 2016 season.

Last year Highbank were responsible for one lot at the 2015 Guineas breeze up in Group 3 Albany Stakes second Ashadihan, and the family is set to be represented at this years Guineas Breeze-up sale in the form of lot 180, a colt by Elusive Quality out of Readyandaway, herself by More than Ready and a half sister to the dam of Ashadihan, Miss Delila. The colt has received glowing reports from connections at Oaks Farm and we look forward to seeing how he gets on at the end of April.
